The tiny, delicate fingers and toes, the precious, soft skin—these moments are filled with a love unlike any other. You know your life will never be the same. However, these moments pass by so quickly, and it's our privilege to preserve this special milestone for you and your family forever.

As parents, we know those early days go by in the blink of an eye. The things you treasure so much—the smell of a baby's skin, the feel of their little body cuddled against yours—become distant but cherished memories as your children grow and change. Let us be there at the beginning of your little one's journey to capture this time of beauty and innocence in professional photographs that you and your loved ones will treasure forever.

Our newborn photography sessions in Derry are designed to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. We take great care to create a safe and comfortable environment, allowing us to capture those precious moments naturally and beautifully.

THE NEWBORN PORTRAIT PROCESS

We understand that once your baby is born, you’ll have a lot on your mind, and selecting a photographer might not be the first thing on your list. That's why it's best to book your baby photo session two to four months before your due date. This way, once your little one arrives, you can simply let us know, and we will coordinate with you to choose the perfect day for your photo session.

Newborn photographs should ideally be taken before the baby is two weeks old, with the optimal time being within the first nine days. Babies younger than ten days old are less fussy, sleep deeply, and are not yet affected by infant acne, increasing the likelihood of capturing the perfect moments.

Booking your newborn photography session in advance ensures a smooth and stress-free experience, allowing us to preserve those precious early moments beautifully.

BEFORE THE SESSION

We understand that predicting your baby’s feeding and sleeping schedule during the first few days can be challenging. Ideally, you should keep your baby awake for two hours before your session and schedule a feeding just before you leave home to come to my studio. Sleeping newborns produce the best photographs, so try to time your baby’s naps accordingly.

If you want to include any special props, be sure to pack them the night before to avoid last-minute stress. For breastfeeding mothers, it's best to avoid spicy foods or caffeine for 24 hours prior to the session to ensure your baby is comfortable.

Following these tips will help create a smooth and enjoyable newborn photography experience, allowing us to capture beautiful, timeless images of your little one.

DURING THE SESSION

We understand that your baby's first photo shoot can be a stressful time. You might worry if your baby isn’t cooperating or feel anxious watching someone else handle and pose your little one. The first rule of newborn photography is to relax, and the second is to have patience. If you are tense, your baby will sense it and might have trouble settling into the deep sleep we aim for.

Take a deep breath, think calming thoughts, and follow your baby's lead. I am highly experienced, and your baby's safety is my top priority, so rest assured, your little one is in good hands. I am happy to take the time needed for feeding, changing, comforting, and lulling your baby to sleep so we can create beautiful, artistic photographs.

Because of this, we ask that you allow up to three hours for your session to ensure we have ample time to capture these precious moments.

AFTER THE SESSION

After your newborn session, we need time to sort through and edit the images. Typically, one to two weeks after your photography session, we will set up a photo viewing at our studio on Culmore Road in Derry - Londonderry. During this session, you can enjoy a full viewing of your photographs and order beautiful wall art and prints.

Following your viewing appointment, we will host your images in a private online gallery for up to seven days. This allows your family members to view and order additional prints conveniently.
